  • Microsoft contemplates acquiring additional studios to remain in the same league with Sony and Tencent

More purchases are planned until Microsoft possesses a bigger share

In the new interview given for Squawk Asia

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, admitted that more game studio purchases may follow. For the moment the publisher proceeds with their gigantic purchase of Activision Blizzard ($75 billion worth).

Spencer, when asked, whether the company have another deal on their mind or intend to put on halt new investments, reacted in the following way:

“Out market remains highly competitive. I do not suppose we have the right to stop. Tencent is the company with the biggest figures in the gaming industry as of now. They are going to intensively invest in game creators as well as in games themselves.”

Spencer added: that Sony’s share was larger as of now, and they never ceased to put their money in the industry. This market was extremely competitive. The executive pointed out that the company aimed at highest positions. They were going to provide customers with fresh gaming content. They needed to remain dynamic.

I had realized that this perspective was real also before Spencer made his clear statements. One can observe a new paradigm of integration of the game industry. A number of companies, including Microsoft, Sony, Tencent and Embracer Group, have ceaselessly been making huge purchases in the recent years.

In the later segment of the interview with Squawk Spencer assured that the company for the time being did not have any intention to buy Discord. He mentioned that he was glad about two companies working together.

Spencer appeared to think more positively about some steps by the company in the segment of JRPG. The conversation occurred in Japan where Spencer participated in the Tokyo Game Show. The executive mentioned that both Sony and Nintendo considered JRPG as their domain. At the same time Microsoft could hardly enter the Japanese market.

Spencer related about his lengthy meetings with Japanese developers where both parties were doing their best to shape constructive relationships and serve their interests. In the end the head of Xbox promised that the price of Xbox consoles would not rise despite the increase of PSS price by Sony.

Announcement aimed at most countries of the world excluding America.
