Pancake Lenses - UltraVR Media

Pancake Lenses

Meta expects to release four new headsets using Qualcomm chips and pancake lens technology.

Current technology keeps up panels thinner at lower spacing and hence a sleeker and brighter visor.

Because pancake lenses have poor light transmission, the display must remain slightly brighter to provide the same amount of original brightness, which wastes more power.

Face & Eye Tracker

Quest Pro will feature both tracking technologies, so your eyes and appearance data will reflect on your in-game character. Some essential details are yet unknown, especially the eye motion detector feature, whether it supports dimpled rendering. Dimpled rendering is a feature that renders only a small percentage of the display you are now looking at full aspect ratio, providing efficiency as a result of lesser sharpness. That additional processing power may be applied to enhance graphical quality to get greater rendering textures.

Distance perception in VR

Quest Pro comes with an infrared projector for dynamic depth measurement. Meta hasn’t revealed much about what it will be useful for quite yet, but Zuckerberg referred to it as “better hand tracking,” so we might assume that the Quest Pro will provide a more accurate hand-motion detector.

Our assumptions: To try Quest 2 AR, the user should also tag the room surroundings. However, it looks like an effortful task with inconsistent outcomes.

Leaked details

In the leaked pictures, we could see the box, the headset on the box, and the new controllers. As far as we know, right now, the headline features are:

  • 256 gigabytes of storage;
  • Qled panels that render a display of 1800 by 1920 per eye counter;
  • rotated pancake lenses that improve the field of view by 21 degrees;
  • Wi-Fi 6E capabilities;
  • ten sensors plus an IR depth projector for mixed reality;
  • improved spatial audio;
  • advanced controller haptics and pressure sensors which also have three IR cameras for Standalone six degrees of freedom tracking;
  • wireless charging and a ton of other stuff.

The quest Pro may announce at the meta connect event.

Brand-new design

Footage found by YouTuber Basti just before the final concept was revealed to us to scrutinize the prototype design. The actual prototype he provided shows way accurate representation. Earlier this year, Bradley Lynch stated that he saw real examples of the Quest Pro and cooperated with the company director to present the final project. Leaked images determine that the device has five outer cameras.

Camera settings on those images correspond to the device the hotel staff observed when unpacking.

Charging Device

Another revealed video demonstrates a wireless battery charger for controllers.

The third pair of pins indicated that the current charger also powers the device. Your headset and controllers will be ready to use whenever you want to play. And the always-on power means that game and application updates can download while you are away.

Technical characteristics

The lens design is for your eyes, not for camera lenses, not the camera’s lenses, so take your conclusion and see what you want. The difference is that two pancake cavities switch on and off with two switchable halfway plates. B applying a voltage, you can switch between the top and the bottom optical paths. Of course, when all the surfaces are flat, this isn’t that interesting because there is no difference when the two visual ways tailors have different focal lengths. So now, this has become very useful in creating a high resolution. A single display can provide both complete fields of view by applying a voltage to those switchable half-wave elements. If you switch back and forth quickly, your eye integrates the two perspectives and enjoys a wide field of view and high resolution.

Mini LED uses numerous tiny backlight components to replace a few bigger ones.

VR headset has a conventional high-resolution display, and Single-panel headsets cannot exploit every pixel since there is a blank distance from mounted lenses. And since this VR has an adjustable distance between them, Meta was forced to leave additional space. Meaning that the true image quality that each eye will receive will be slightly different.

If Kuo’s report is valid, such a technology must be capable of processing 30% more pixels to both eyes and producing excellent visual contrast.

The Quest Pro is waiting for an announcement at the meta connect event.
